Commissions have been popular since Emily’s Watercolour Exhibition held a month or so back.  This one now part of an international group of people who appreciates Emily’s ability to produce bright, emotional watercolour portraits.

Portrait of a woman from the Highlands region of PNG, from the recent Melanesian Festival of Art and Culture

Portrait of a woman from the Highlands region of PNG, from the recent Melanesian Festival of Art and Culture.  40cm x 30cm.

The recent Melanesian Festival of Art and Culture was a fantastic opportunity for all to see Melanesian culture in all its vibrant colour.  While it never reached the intensity of the famous festivals of Goroka or Mt Hagen, the 11 day MFAC gave the viewer a longer period of time to take it all in.  Sing-sing groups and craft workers from all over Melanesia spent the duration of the festival displaying traditional dance, song, and a way of life that is quickly becoming part of history.

It was a golden opportunity for Emily to put watercolour to paper and produce some exquisite portraiture.
